Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

There’s set to be heartache for Hollyoaks’ Hutchinson family, as matriarch Diane has been diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer, but is yet to tell her four children Ro, Ant, Dee-Dee and Eva of her illness. However, when Diane ultimately does break the tragic news, actor Brook Debio has teased how his character Ant may react.

Brook took over the role of Ant from William Thompson, who played the role for two years, in a huge shake-up of the Hutchinson children’s casting.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Brook revealed how his troublesome teenage character could take the horrific reality of his mum’s prognosis.

“I think he’d be so upset,” begins Brook. “In the past, Ant had lots of arguments with his mum and was verbally abusive towards her. He used to bottle up his emotions and try not to show how he really feels, but this situation will really force him to.

“He doesn’t show his emotions like his sister, and instead of crying all the time he might get angry – but I think he will end up breaking down eventually.”

It won’t all be heartbreak for the youngster however, as Brook also teased that his character’s new romance with Kathleen-Angel McQueen will develop, following the scenes this week where the schoolmates slept together.

“In the coming weeks, you’ll see Ant and Kathleen-Angel’s relationship really deepen, they’ll start acting more like a couple and sharing more intimate moments,” Brook reveals.

“That closeness starts to create tension with Ro – we’ll see how the relationship between Ro and Ant is affected, as well as Kathleen-Angel’s friendship with Ro…”
