The boffins reckon Diamonds Galore (14.10) can sparkle on just her second run in a handicap.

WORLD OF FORTUNES was below her best when only fourth at Doncaster on her penultimate start, but got right back on track when runner-up in a Grade 3 at Punchestown last month, losing out by only three-quarters of a length. She’d run to a similar level when successful in a handicap at Ballinrobe and runner-up in a listed race at Limerick last autumn, so her form is up there with the best on offer.

She should benefit from stepping back up in trip to three miles here and edges the vote over Hollygrove Cha Cha, who didn’t look a natural over fences but returned to winning ways in a listed hurdle at Warwick last month.

BROOKSIDE LA improved on his previous efforts when making a successful handicap debut at Wetherby on Boxing Day, doing well to prevail by three-quarters of a length given he came from towards the rear in a slowly-run race.

He then showed even better form in defeat when third – behind the reopposing Judicial Difference – in a big-field handicap at Haydock that has worked out well. Yet, though Judicial Difference was a winner here last month, Brookside La reacquaints himself with said rival on much better terms this time, and could still have more to offer after only a couple of outings in handicaps.

Elsewhere in the field, Captain Butler raced in snatches when only fifth at Haydock last time on his return to hurdling, but he’ll be suited by stepping back up in trip and is on a fair mark, so it would be no surprise were he to emerge as the chief threat.

Nicky Henderson could hold the key to this, with Khrisma and DIAMONDS GALORE both looking like leading contenders. Khrisma will understandably be popular in the market on the back of a cosy win in a good-quality novice at Market Rasen last time.

But Diamonds Galore offers some value at a bigger price, and so gets the vote. She went like the best horse at the weights when runner-up on her handicap debut at Ludlow, but a mistake at the final flight proved costly. She could still have more to offer.

After making a successful start over fences here in October on his debut for Dan Skelton, DIAMOND DEALER followed up in good style at Chepstow. He was then pulled up in the Borders National after doing too much too soon over a much longer trip, but resumed his progress when only narrowly denied at Wetherby last month.

Diamond Dealer jumped soundly in the main at Wetherby and could take some pegging back if putting in a similar round here. Bridge Court scored with authority at Musselburgh last month and could provide the main threat.

FORTUNATE MAN has been below his best in a couple of valuable handicaps the last twice, but he still looks fairly treated based on the form he showed when making a successful reappearance at Aintree on Boxing Day. He finished nicely on top there, beating a next-time-out winner by three lengths with the pair clear, and is now only 3 lb higher in the weights.

Aboutdamntime seemed to appreciate a return to less testing ground when winning at Ludlow last time, and he can give another good account of himself.

In the expectation that Le Frimeur will be a non-runner following his win at Newbury on Friday, GAELIC ROVER is taken to come out on top, even though he fell on the flat after three out, with plenty still to do in the Premier Novices’ Hurdle here last month.

However, he had created a good impression prior to that, including when he was a wide-margin winner at Newcastle on his penultimate start. Eagles Reprieve, a course-and-distance maiden winner before finishing a creditable second at Newcastle in January, is also likely to be on the premises.

DIAMOND WHITE made an encouraging start under Rules when third at Catterick in December, and also offered something to work with when filling the same position at Newcastle the following month. She is taken to build on that promise and get off the mark.

Presentandcorrect also arrives on the back of a placed effort having finished third over this course and distance last month, so he is respected.
