RTÉ man says he’s hoping for a repeat moment in Prague on Thursday

The authentic reach of the Irish soccer team was evident in the voice of Darragh Maloney just after Troy Parrott scored his all-timer in Budapest last November. The RTÉ commentator was standing in the commentary box in the Puskas Arena alongside Ray Houghton and calling one of the most high-wire qualifiers in Ireland’s history.
Maloney grew up in Beaumont, a handful of miles from Parrott’s childhood home in Buckingham Street on Dublin’s northside. He’s never met Parrott. But when the forward got a balletic touch to the ball to score that late winner, Maloney rhapsodised his name with a Dublin accent that shone stronger than usual.
