Over €58 million in inheritance tax was paid across the Shannonside Northern Sound region in 2024.
An increase to the inheritance tax thresholds was announced in October 2024 but the government later committed to a further review before the general election.
According to a breakdown published in the Sunday Independent, €11.3 million was paid across Cavan and Monaghan, while just over €47 million was paid in inheritance tax by 1,040 taxpayers across Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway and Longford.
Currently, a child is allowed to inherit €400,000 free of tax and any amount above that is taxed at 33 per cent.
The new figures show the State took in a record €1.121bn from it and gift tax revenue last year.
