All-Ireland Junior Ladies Football champions Muckalee were saluted at County Hall last night, where they were afforded a Civic Reception by Council Cathaoirleach Mary Hilda Kavanagh.

Last December, the North Kilkenny club claimed their first All-Ireland title in dramatic circumstances, defeating Cromane of Kerry thanks to Katie Nolan’s last gasp free.

Cllr Kavanagh congratulated the players and management on their historic success and said the trailblazing group were role models for Kilkenny’s young sportswomen as well as the wider community.

Speaking to KCLR News, Muckalee player Cora Dooley said such recognition wasn’t lost on the panel while team manager Pat McDowell (dubbed ‘Mr Motivator’ by local Councillor Pat Fitzpatrick) said his side’s magnificent success had shortened the winter.
