The wait is almost over. The biggest day in Irish Football for quite some time is nearly upon us.

With a place at the World Cup Finals at stake, there is huge importance and interest in the game against the Czechs.

The country has been on a massive high since Troy Parrott’s goals against Portugal and Hungary. His heroics have single-handedly given Ireland a chance of reaching their first World Cup finals since 2002.

If Ireland were to get past the Czechs, a home play-off final against either Denmark or North Macedonia would be on the cards, taking place at a bouncing Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, the 31st of March.

Notable performances from Irish players at the weekend included Ireland hero Troy Parrott playing a full 90 minutes for AZ Alkmaar and so far, he has shown no injury concerns. Caoimhín Kelleher displayed an impressive performance at the weekend, keeping a clean sheet in Brentford’s draw against Leeds and newly called-up midfielder, Harvey Vale, registered two assists in QPR’s 6-1 win over Portsmouth.

From a Czech point of view, Lyon’s Pavel Šulc registered a goal and an assist, bringing his tally this season to 15 goals and 10 assists and Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrick Schick bagged a brace as they drew at Heidenheim.

All is up for grabs in Prague and the game promises to be a nail-biting one for both sets of fans.
