An alert motorist spotted what they thought was a stranded climber on Errigal Mountain on Sunday evening last.

The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team were tasked to the scene at 7.25pm by An Garda Síochána after the motorist reported a possible incident.

A DMRT hasty team was dispatched to Errigal car park and established contact with an individual descending the path.

The person was well-equipped, having stayed on the mountain later than planned to watch the sunset.

They also had extra clothing, map, compass, food, and a fully charged mobile phone.

A spokesperson for the DMRT said they would like to thank the motorist for raising the alarm.

“It is always better to be safe than sorry,” said the spokesperson.
