Dublin born writer and director turned Hollywood power player Lee Cronin likes his movies to ‘bring the horror home’. And that’s especially the case for his new take on ‘The Mummy’ which was filmed in Co Wicklow and informed by a personal loss

I am standing in a house in the middle of nowhere in Texas. Through the windows, you can see the large expanse of desert and mountains stretching off in all directions. Inside, everything seems as it should… until you look a little closer. In the kitchen, all of the food has begun to rot. The flowers are dying. There is a hole in the ceiling, dripping a mysterious black ooze. Oh, and there is an empty casket in the living room; whoever was inside seems to have crawled out…
Stepping outside the house, I can see I’m actually not in Texas at all, but in a desolate part of Spain. Running 360 degrees around the house, the haunting, empty landscape around us will double as the surroundings of the Texan-based abode.
