Three car break-ins reported to gardaí in one day at Limerick villages

Three vehicles were broken into over the course of one day in the villages of Annacotty and Patrickswell, Limerick.

Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Sergeant of Henry Street garda station, recounted on March 22, Sunday: “A male driver parked his car outside a local business.”

“When he returned a short time later, he found the doors open and a male sitting in the driver’s seat attempting to start the vehicle.”

The sergeant said: “the suspect managed to start the car — a white 2016 Toyota Aqua — and drove off.”

At the time of interview with Sergeant O’Halloran, the vehicle remains unrecovered.

On the same night in Annacotty, March 22, a woman reported her white 2013 Nissan March as stolen at approximately 8:30pm.

Sergeant O’Halloran said: “It is believed the car was left unlocked. The vehicle has since been recovered.”

Earlier at 3.30pm on March 22, “two males opened the unlocked driver’s door of a vehicle parked at Barnakyle, Patrickswell.

“They took a wallet from inside the vehicle. The owner disturbed them, and they fled the scene.”

Gardaí are investigating the thefts and are asking anyone who may have observed the vehicles to contact them on 061 212400.

An Garda Síochána has warned Limerick citizens to always lock their vehicles, even if leaving them for a short time, and to never leave valuables visible from outside the vehicle.

Gardaí are also cautioning residents to always ensure home windows and doors are secured, particularly when leaving a property unattended.
