Liz Kavanagh and Kieran O Malley have said I Do in a beautiful wedding day, one day after announcing the news that she’s moved to hospice care.
The couple, who got engaged in October 2025, tied the knot on Friday, March 27, in a wedding that Kieran proudly planned in one hour.
Sadly, Liz, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in October 2024, was given the news one week prior that her cancer had spread and that doctors could do nothing further for her except make her comfortable. She moved to hospice care on Tuesday.

Kieran and Liz said ‘I do’ in a civil ceremony in Galway on Friday, and later, in a ‘full-circle moment’, celebrated their nuptials at HYDE Bar, where they celebrated their engagement last year.
Liz wore a beautiful white dress with a trailing lacy detailing for their special day, which she styled with a veil and a bouquet of pastel coloured flowers.
Sharing a wedding picture, Kieran said: ‘Today we officially tied the knot and are now Mr & Mrs O’Malley. We had a great day surrounded by family and friends and it was all that we could have asked for.’

It takes a village, as they say, and although Kieran planned the wedding, he and Liz have an amazing support network that rallied around them to help make this dream a reality.
Speaking to EVOKE, Kieran said he contacted Canella Lane to organise Liz’s wedding dress. ‘I thought they did party dresses and stuff, and I contacted Sienna and she sent me back 20 options from a wedding dress supplier.
‘Liz’s friends were over that night, and I gave them the phone and they picked the dress between the four of them. And then I said, “Alright, which dress are you going for?”, and they’re like, “You can’t see it!”‘
‘I was like, “I have to see it, I’m ordering it”,’ he laughed. ‘I’ve seen it online, but not in person. A tailor came to Galway Hospice yesterday, and it’s all fitted and back hanging up in the room now ready to go for the morning.’

Kieran said of their family and friends: ‘It’s such an incredibly difficult time, but the fact that everyone is coming in and talking to Liz and myself in the last week about our wedding and not about the difficulties that we’re going through has been just such a lift and such a positive thing for us.
‘To be focusing on something so beautiful has been absolutely fantastic.’
‘Liz is in an incredible battle, and we decided that we don’t have something to look forward to, so we decided to get married as soon as possible,’ Kieran told us.

‘Last Friday we decided, and within one hour I had the wedding organised. I’m very proud of this, and I’m telling everyone this,’ he joked. ‘I organised a full wedding in one hour.’
Kieran said he’s ‘lucky’ to work in hospitality and have the connections that he does. He organised a celebrant, booked the venue, and ‘spoke to a florist friend of ours’.
‘We spoke to an event planner, Fiona, who is going to do all the decorations. It’s in HYDE Bar. The service and the reception is in the same venue as we had our engagement party, so it’s a special location to us that kind of brings this full circle.’

‘Colin Fahy, a very good friend of mine, is going to be singing,’ Kieran continued, adding that their wedding party comprises 80 of their closest friends and family, including Jennifer Wrynne, who recently went through a cancer battle of her own.
Sharing snaps from the wedding, Jennifer said: ‘What a magical day celebrating two of my favourite people – Liz & Kieran. So special from start to finish.’
Another friend who was with them was comedian Alan Clarke, who said he was ‘filled with pride’ seeing Kieran on his wedding day.

As for their wedding bands, Kieran told us of some people they had met in their travels. ‘They were asking how Liz was, and I said, you know, she’s going through a lot, and they said, “If we can ever do anything for you”.
The lady and her husband own a jewellers in Galway, and organised their wedding bands for them. ‘Liz’s sister-in-law tried on the rings, so then we came back to the hospital with samples, and we picked the two rings there in the hospital bed. On the day, it just all kind of came together.’

Kieran said of his beautiful bride, Liz, whom he met on Hinge five years ago: ‘I’m really proud to be marrying such a special lady. The bravery she has shown throughout this has been absolutely incredible, and the reaction we’ve got has just been a testament to the person she is.
‘She’s such an incredible person, and people have been genuinely incredible. One friend rang the other day and said, “What’s your address? I’m sending over two cleaners to your house.” And people just cannot do enough for us. It has been amazing.’
