A man in his 40s has sustained serious injuries following an alleged assault in Dublin early this morning.

The incident occurred at around 2.35am on Amiens Street, North Wall in Dublin 1.

The man was brought to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where his condition has been described as critical.

Gardaí said in a statement that a technical examination was carried out at the scene.

They are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

Any persons who were in the vicinity between 2.30am and 2.50am and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
