Dr Emily opened up to followers in a very honest video
Peter Andre‘s doctor wife Emily has opened up about a health condition she has – in the hope of helping others. The 36-year-old, who is an NHS doctor, appeared in a video she captioned: “A little health update.”
Speaking in a video on Instagram, she told followers: “Hi everyone, I wanted to share something a bit personal, but also hopefully helpful. You might have seen my videos this week I mentioned I had a minor health issue.
“Basically what’s happened is I’ve been diagnosed with Shingles. So as a doctor I thought this was a good opportunity to do a bit of education around what Shingles is.
“You might associate Shingles with older people by the way – and you would be right because that is the most common age group affected. I’m definitely a bit younger than the typical demographic but it can happen at any age which is why it’s worth knowing about.”

She added: “Just to explain briefly what Shingles is, it’s caused by the same virus that gives you chicken pox. After you’ve had chicken pox, which many people do in childhood, the virus stays dormant in your body and it can then reactivate later in life as Shingles.
“So in terms of what you might expect if you had Shingles, it usually starts with pain, tingling or sensitivity in a specific area and that’s often before you see anything on the skin.
“For me personally, I noticed a pain and just odd sensations under my arm here and then a couple of days later the rash appeared on my back on one side. It is typically just on one side of the body, often in a band or a strip. It then develops into fluid-filled blisters that can be quite painful.”

She wrote in the caption: “As always, do refer to the NHS website for more information, and seek medical advice if you’re unsure about anything. Let’s just say… not exactly how I planned to spend the week, but a good reminder to listen to your body and get things checked if something doesn’t feel right.”
Emily and Peter have been married since 11 July 2015, after originally meeting in 2010 when Emily’s father, who is a surgeon, treated Peter, 53, for kidney stones.
She is a practising NHS doctor and published author who frequently appears on TV shows including ITV’s Lorraine as a medical expert. The couple have three children: Amelia, Theo, and Arabella.
