AMD’s Ryzen 9 7900X is a great CPU for gaming, even though it’s a few years old at this point. We loved it in our initial review, and we still think it’s a fantastic option if you’re looking to upgrade or include it as part of a new build.
Of course, we wouldn’t recommend this chip unless it could be had for a good price. Right now, you can grab it for well below its original retail price, as it drops to just $200. This is the lowest price we’ve seen for this CPU, making it a great time to pick one up.
What’s great about the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X?
This AMD CPU features 12 threads, 24 cores, and can boost up to 5.6GHz when needed. It’s built on AMD’s AM5 platform, which is its latest, which means you’ll have plenty of great motherboards to choose from.
And if you decide to upgrade later on, there are still plenty of great CPUs to choose from. When it comes to performance, we saw pretty good numbers from this chip, and while it’s great for gaming, it can still be used for other applications without any problems.
So, if you’re just trying to build a new PC for everyday use, this CPU can still be a great option. For the most part, you can’t go wrong here, and the only real hurdle is going to be finding a fair price on DDR5 RAM to pair it with.

With 12 cores, the Ryzen 9 7900X is the lighter weight flagship CPU of the Ryzen 7000 series. It’s great for both multicore workloads and gaming, and while it’s not as fast as the 7950X, it’s quite a bit cheaper.
