Daniel Caesar nabs his 3rd Juno of the weekend

The Toronto R&B singer just won contemporary R&B recording of the year, for his fourth studio album, Son of Spergy, which he performed from earlier in the evening for a beautiful acoustic set.

Billy Talent presented Caesar with the win, which comes after the singer won the Juno for songwriter of the year last night, as well as the International Achievement Award at the beginning of tonight’s show.

Caesar is no stranger to this category, as he won his first Juno for R&B/soul recording of the year in 2018 and 2020 before the category was split into traditional and contemporary R&B the following year.

This is his second time winning for contemporary R&B recording.

“Thank you to the Junos, thank you to all of you guys for listening to the album,” Caesar said as he accepted his award while standing next to his dad.

“I want to say thank you to my dad, this is Spergy, right here … and to my mom, and to Mustafa, thanks for the kind words.”

Caesar then passed the mic to his dad, Norwill Simmonds, who laughed lightly and said, “Oh I just love you all, thank you Junos.”
