Abbey Street in Dublin city centre is currently closed following a road-traffic collision earlier today.

The crash, which gardaí described as “serious”, occurred at the junction of Abbey Street and O’Connell Street in Dublin 1. Part of one side of O’Connell Street, from Supermac’s down to the quays is also cordoned off.

It is understood the crash involved an escooter and a truck. A A Garda forensic team is currently at the scene.

Road users have been asked to avoid the area due to delays, while Luas red line services are currently not operating between Smithfield and The Point.

The incident, which was attended by ambulances, the fire brigade and the An Garda Síochána, occurred just off O’Connell Street on the corner of Middle Abbey Street, outside Supermac’s. The area has been cordoned off. The ambulances and fire brigade have since left the scene.

Luas operator Transdev said services are only operating between Tallaght/Saggart and Connolly/The Point. Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of the disruption.
