EastEnders spoilers follow for the latest episode to air on BBC One and stream on iPlayer.

EastEnders has lined up an exit for Patrick Trueman in the latest episode, as the trial concerning the death of his son Anthony looms.

Earlier this week, the Crown Prosecution Service asked Patrick if he could give a video statement, but his family were concerned about the toll it would take on him.

In tonight’s episode, Patrick’s wife Yolande Trueman confided in Denise Fox that the CPS had again called about the statement.

“I don’t know how he’s going to cope going through all that again,” she said. “The pain — the pain of how he lost Anthony — I’m just worried that it might be too much for him.”

The two later sat down with Patrick and suggested that there’s a good chance the CPS will let him record his statement in advance, which means that he could record it and then go “somewhere far away, like really far away”. Specifically: Trinidad.

They stated that it would be a good chance for him to clear his head and that he could come back a few weeks after the trial was all over.

Patrick was hesitant at first, but after the two said he could still fight for justice for Anthony and spend quality time with his other son Isaac, he came around to the idea.

It will just be an exit for a few weeks though, with no permanent exit planned for Patrick.

If you cast your mind back to New Year’s Day, Patrick was seen in the flashforward episode, where he spoke to Oscar Branning about the youngster being a part of his family.

Is that because Oscar stays with Patrick’s granddaughter Jasmine Fisher and he forgives her for her involvement in Anthony’s death?

Or is it because Oscar ends up in a relationship with Jasmine’s brother Josh Goodwin? If so, what will happen to Jasmine along the way?

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
