Former 2FM host Louise McSharry has admitted she felt a sense of ‘relief’ when she announced she was a gay woman – but isn’t prioritising finding love again.

Less than a year ago, Louise told her podcast followers that her marriage to Gordon Spierin had ended as she realised in 2022 she was gay after having ‘a question mark around my sexuality for a long time.’

Speaking for the first time since she announced her news, Louise told EVOKE that she has been ‘really lucky’ to have an ex like Gordon.

Louise said: ‘It’s good. It’s a transition. But no, it’s been good. We’re really lucky. Gordon and I are living near to each other, so our situation with the kids is really fluid. We are all together almost every day, at some stage in the day.’

Louise was speaking at the launch of the 2026 Style Awards, where she is up for The Sustainable Style Award. The awards, hosted by Jennifer Zamparelli, will return on May 16 at the InterContinental Dublin.

Asked if she has dipped into the dating pool, Louise admitted finding love is ‘not a priority’ for her right now.

She said: ‘I’m not there. I don’t even know where to begin… I haven’t been on the market for like, nearly 18 years, so I just wouldn’t even know where to start. It’s not a priority for me right now.

‘The main thing for me right now is just trying to settle into the new rhythm of life and [to] make sure the kids are comfortable… It’s really about managing the relationships that I have rather than introducing anything new.’

Last year, Louise recalled only recently telling her two children, Sam, nine, and Ted, six, about her sexuality before making her announcement on her podcast, Catch Up.

She said: ‘I mean, it’s pretty straightforward, you know, it’s actually not that complicated.’

She admitted she felt a sense of relief when she told people, saying: ‘When you have a really enormous thing that’s happening in your life, and you aren’t in a position really to speak freely about it, that can be a little bit awkward

‘And it definitely is easier than having to be kind of careful all the time about how I spoke about things. It’s still uncomfortable for me to talk about it to be honest in this way, because I’m not totally used to it being a public thing, but I think it is important to be honest about it at the same time.

‘I’m not ashamed of it in any capacity. But I think because it was something that I was dealing with privately within my family for three years… I’m still getting used to it being a public conversation.’

Speaking on her podcast, Catch Up, last November, Louise recalled an emotional therapy session that ‘landed on the fact that I’m a gay woman’.

Recounting her return home for the enlightening therapy session, Louise told Una: ‘[Gordon] was like, “Are you okay?” and I was like, “Yeah?” and then I started crying again. I said, “I think I’m gay”, and he said, “I’m not surprised”.

That obviously set off a massive domino effect in our lives, what it meant for our relationship, what it meant for our family, our immediate family, us and the boys. What our future was going to look like, all of these questions, I didn’t really have answers to them at the time.’
