A beautiful painting by the late Patsy Dan Rodgers has fetched €1,200 at auction in Dublin

Titled ‘Donegal Cottage’, the 21.25 by 25.25in. (54 by 64.1cm) oil on canvas was signed by the late Tory Island painter and has an estimated value of between €800 – €1,200.

The painting was part of Whyte’s Auctioneers Spring Online Art Auction.

Bidding ended on Monday evening and the painting was snapped by by an undisclosed bidder.

Ireland’s last king, Patsy Dan Rodgers was laid to rest on his beloved Tory Island in October, 2018.

Although born in Dublin’s Westland Road, he was adopted and brought to Tory Island aged just four. A talented button accordion player, he was also a proficient artist, having been taught a primitive form of art by the renowned English artist Derek Hill.

The latest Whyte’s auction also includes an exciting array of accessible art from Ireland and around the world. Many prominent artists are represented including Jack Butler Yeats, Robert Ballagh, Damien Hirst and many more.
