A teenage cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash in Co Galway.

The collision involved a car in Claregalway on the N83 (formerly the N17) at around 8pm on Tuesday.

The male cyclist was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway, where he is being treated for serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out by forensic investigators and the road has reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with camera or dashcam footage.
