You thought chocolate eggs were the best bit about Easter? Pah! It’s all about the Irish Grand National, baby.

Fairyhouse’s marathon contest is the richest race on the calendar in Ireland thanks to a pretty prize pot worth €500,000. It’s also one of the most challenging as the runners need to negotiate 24 fences over a stamina-sapping 3m5f trip.

Haiti Couleurs successfully made the trip across the Irish Sea to claim the crown in comfortable fashion last year. Rebecca Curtis’ stable star will not defend the title, however, as Aintree’s equivalent is on the agenda this term.

The Jukebox Kid is the favourite with Paddy Power to win the Irish Grand National after a facile success in the Grade 2 Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase at Ascot in February. Ben Pauling’s gelding is three from four over fences.

Soldier In Milan is next in our antepost market after finishing fourth in the Grade 3 Pierce Molony Memorial Novice Chase. The Emmet Mullins-trained gelding beat Kiss Will in a Beginners Chase at Punchestown in February.

Grade 3 winner Argento Boy is next in our early betting. The Willie Mullins-trained gelding was eighth in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last time out.

Stablemate C’Est Ta Chance is also prominent in the antepost market as he looks to complete a hat-trick. The seven-year-old gelding’s a Grade 3 winner after bagging the Pierce Molony Memorial Novice Chase last time out.
