A number of drivers were nabbed by Letterkenny Gardaí yesterday for having non-conforming registration plates/

Such non-conforming Irish registration plates include those that have custom or non-standard fonts, incorrect sizes, colours or spacing, no EU flag or “IRL” identifier and those that are designed to defeat Garda ANPR systems.

After the issuing of a number of fixed charge penalty notices to drivers yesterday, Letterkenny Gardaí are reminding the public that each non-regulation, missing, or obscured plate can result in a €60 fine per plate.

They are also reminding motorists that all registration plates must meet Irish format and visibility standards.

Full details of those regulations are available here: https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/vehicle-registration-tax/registration-plates-and-format-standards.aspx
