In a week in which the Irish soccer team fought so valiantly to qualify for the World Cup, it feels oddly comforting to speak to George Hamilton.
In victory or defeat, that soft northern accent was the soundtrack to the glory year of 1990 and his commentary – with characteristically brilliant mid-stream asides – feels as much part of that moment as the pictures.
