She captured the nation’s hearts on Britain’s Got Talent – and now Susan Boyle has unveiled a remarkable transformation.
The star left both the judging panel and audience utterly mesmerised with her breathtaking rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables. Initially, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan had their doubts about Susan when she first stepped onto the stage, ready to dismiss her – until she opened her mouth to sing.
Following her show-stopping performance in 2008, which catapulted her to global fame, the Scottish sensation was widely expected to take the crown and secure a Royal Variety Performance slot, but ultimately finished as runner-up to dance troupe Diversity.
Despite garnering worldwide recognition after her debut on the talent show, she has remained grounded and genuinely humbled by her achievements – despite reportedly amassing a fortune of a whopping £22 million (€25.2m).

Now Susan has left fans stunned with a fresh snap – prompting some to claim the 65-year-old must be ageing “backwards”. Having become one of the programme’s greatest success stories, here’s what her life looks like these days..
Incredible makeover
Ahead of her 65th birthday on April 1, Susan took to Instagram to post a photo of herself in a football shirt, debuting a blonde makeover.
Looking worlds apart from her early days in the spotlight, fans are marvelling at how she’s managed to appear so remarkably youthful. Striking a pose with her hands on her hips, she wrote: “I’m so proud to support the wonderful charity, Street Soccer Scotland. I’ve absolutely loved getting my hands on this beautiful limited edition Street Soccer Scotland x Timorous Beasties football shirt.”
Responding to the post, one Instagram user asked: “How does she look younger?” A second follower gushed: “I remember watching you 17 years ago and my God we’re you absolutely amazing. And here you are today. You look fabulous.”
A third mused: “OMG, are you Benjamin Button? Looking so youthful and really pretty in your cute tee.” While a fourth admirer declared: “Wow! You look fabulous. Keep up the good work, and sing. I have always enjoyed your singing. Absolutely beautiful.”

Staggering wealth
Since her meteoric rise to fame, Susan has reportedly amassed an extraordinary fortune of £22million, reports the Mirror. Having released numerous albums throughout her career, each has undoubtedly contributed to her sizeable wealth.
Her impressive back catalogue includes: I Dreamed a Dream (2009), The Gift (2010), Someone to Watch Over Me (2011), Standing Ovation: The Greatest Songs from the Stage (2012), Home for Christmas (2013), Hope (2014), A Wonderful World (2016) and her most recent offering – Ten (2019). Despite being worth a considerable sum, Susan previously revealed to Piers Morgan that she maintains strict control over her spending.
The singing star adheres to a modest weekly allowance of £300-£500, which she insists is “plenty.” Her companies Duil Limited, Speur Business, Speur Ltd and Speur Films have also accumulated a tidy £2 million (€2.5m).
Comeback
The singer is hoping to stage a musical comeback this year after an extended break. The star had intended to tour in 2020, only for the Covid-19 pandemic to force its cancellation.
In April 2025, she posted her first Instagram update for two years, informing her followers she had been occupied in the recording studio. “Today was wonderful, emotional, and everything in between,” she said.
“I made my return to the recording studio for the first time in six years, something I was told I might never achieve again. But here we are, in my happy place! I want to thank my manager, Geraldine, for being my absolute rock through everything and for helping me get back to where I belong. A million thanks.”

Humble home
Despite her substantial wealth, Susan has returned to her roots, opting to remain in her childhood home in Blackburn, West Lothian.
She purchased the former council house for just £111,000 (€126k) – a drop in the ocean for someone of Susan’s means. Now she contentedly resides there with her two cats. Though she once spent £300,000 (€343,786) on a five-bedroom property, it simply didn’t feel like home, and she returned to her cherished family residence, remaining true to her down-to-earth character.
Health struggles
Susan revealed in a 2016 interview that she had lost two stone following her Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. She spoke frankly about her dietary adjustments, saying: “I needed to stop eating sweeties and cakes. It’s the bane of my life.”
She also suffered a stroke in 2022 and disclosed she “had to fight” her way back following her illness. Susan told STV programme What’s on Scotland: “It’s taken me three years and it’s been hard – I’m not going to pretend otherwise but it’s made me determined to keep going.”
The star explained she returned to singing lessons as soon as she felt strong enough after her stroke – and now she’s got exciting plans in the pipeline, including work on a documentary and a drama.

Love life
While on tour after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent, Susan found her first romantic partner – a handsome American doctor.
Susan told us back in 2016: “I don’t want to reveal the doctor’s name. It’s nothing serious at the moment. I will send him a picture of my weight loss – if he’s a good boy! I do enjoy male companionship.” The star added: “All I’ll say is we are around the same age and he was a very nice guy.”
But she subsequently acknowledged that their romance had reached its natural end, revealing: “I did have a gentleman friend, a doctor. We went for lunch but I didn’t tell anyone. But if I had a man friend it would be purely platonic – I’ve been on my own too long now to get married.”
She also expressed her wish to adopt a child, though joked that her cat might not take kindly to it, saying: “I would love to adopt a child too but my cat might get jealous. I don’t want to see a cat and a baby fighting. It’s something I might do later.”

Family rift
Susan also suffered a painful family fallout with her brother Gerry, with the siblings reportedly not on speaking terms for more than two years amid claims that Gerry had threatened to take his own life if Susan didn’t hand over £50,000.
Reports suggest that Susan has provided her brother with approximately £400,000 over the years, though thankfully, they have been reconciled since 2016.
Susan told the Sunday Mirror: “I’m very happy, it’s a great relief and I’m looking to the future with a happy smile. Everything is hunky dory and fantastic.”
