SPACEMAN produced a promising effort when runner-up on his debut at Redcar in November, finishing well under a hands-and-heels ride, having looked green when first asked to pick up. He’s likely to progress and gets the vote over Invincible Boy, who is also trained by Richard and Peter Fahey. The latter disappointed on heavy ground at Doncaster on his second start, but made a promising debut when runner-up at York, and remains with potential.
ARABIAN DESERT didn’t win as a juvenile, but showed useful form, missing out by a neck in a York maiden before finishing runner-up in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury. He sets a clear standard based on his Newbury effort and, with the step up to a mile promising to suit, he’s found an excellent opportunity to get off the mark. Haayimm offered something to work with In third on debut at Beverley last season and could be one for the forecast spot.
ALPHA CAPTURE shaped with encouragement when third at Newcastle last month on his first start for Roger Fell, faring best of those who raced in the far-side group. He runs off the same mark here and should give another good account. Kokanee returns off the same mark he defied at Beverley on his reappearance last season so is another entitled to respect.
SALARIA made a winning start for Charlie Clover when landing a mile-and-a-quarter handicap here in September and she added another couple of wins to her tally before the end of the year. She enhanced her fine record for this stable by winning over a mile at Lingfield last month on her return from an 11-week break and looks like a big player here. Latin was a prolific winner on the all-weather over the winter and shaped well as a close-up third at Southwell last week, so he could prove the main danger.
ARKLOW LAD improved on his efforts for his former stable on a successful start for Mick Appleby at Chelmsford in February and he ran to a similar level when a creditable third in a valuable handicap at Wolverhampton last month. The form of that race has been boosted by the winner, Dark Ace, going on to score again, so he’s entitled to plenty of respect off the same mark here, particularly with the application of cheekpieces potentially a catalyst for further improvement. Atomic Force arrives in search of a hat-trick, having won handicaps at Lingfield and Chelmsford, so he could provide the main danger.
STARSHINE LEGEND has been off the track since September 2024, but he’s given a chance by the handicapper and is 4lb lower than when runner-up at Hamilton on his latest outing. He joined Olly Murphy since last seen and makes his return to the track with his powerful yard going through a good spell, so looks worth chancing. Ashdown Forest doesn’t have many miles on the clock and is respected on his return to the Flat. He’s fitted with cheekpieces for the first time in a bid to bring about a bigger effort.
LIQUID COOLED had been given a break and was gelded ahead of his handicap debut at Newcastle last month, and he produced a much-improved display to get off the mark. He still looked a bit rough around the edges, but the penny dropped nicely late on, and he made good headway to lead 100 yards out and win by a length and a quarter. He could have more to offer, so looks up to defying a 5lb higher mark. Trucial Pearl has hit the frame on all four starts this year and was only beaten by a head at Chelmsford on her penultimate start, so she holds solid claims.
LUCIUS AURELIUS finished down the field at Southwell last time, but can have a line put through that run, as he was caught on heels over a furlong out and lost all chance. He appears to be on a handy mark, based on the pick of his turf form last year, so he could be worth chancing. Canaria Queen enjoyed a good campaign last term, winning on three occasions, and remains on a competitive mark and is respected on her reappearance.
