Filmmaker Karan Johar recently shared a special moment from Tokyo, where he met global stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway during the international promotional tour of The Devil Wears Prada 2. The filmmaker described the interaction as deeply personal and memorable, reflecting his long-standing admiration for Streep and the original film.

Johar shared the moment on social media along with a heartfelt note describing how influential Streep has been to him as an artist. He wrote that he considers her a major inspiration in understanding performance and character portrayal across cinema, adding that he has watched The Devil Wears Prada dozens of times over the years and frequently referenced it in professional and personal conversations.
He also revealed that meeting Streep in person left him visibly emotional, saying he tried to remain composed but felt overwhelmed by the experience. Johar described both Streep and Hathaway as warm and welcoming during their interaction and hinted that he also had an extended conversation with them during the event.
A major reunion for the sequel
The Devil Wears Prada 2 brings back the original creative team behind the 2006 film, including director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna. The sequel reunites its principal cast while expanding the story world with several new characters. The upcoming film also features an ensemble that includes Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B. J. Novak and Conrad Ricamora.
Additionally, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles as Lily and Irv from the original film, continuing the narrative continuity between the two installments. The sequel has generated significant global interest as it revisits one of the most recognisable fashion-focused films in modern cinema. The return of its original cast alongside a refreshed ensemble has added to the anticipation surrounding the project.
Backed by 20th Century Studios, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
