When she agreed to participate in the Laguna Beach reunion, Lauren Conrad had one stipulation that really had to be met.

During her recent appearance on costar Kristin Cavallari’s podcast “Let’s Be Honest,” the host mentioned that she, along with Conrad, Stephen Colletti, had been given executive producer credit for the upcoming reunion special.

“Was that a dealbreaker for you?” Cavallari asked Conrad, who immediately said, “Yes.”

Asked why that was, the lifestyle guru said, “I think that I spent so many years doing this without any control. To have the option to have control and say was really important to me. And it made it feel safer.”

Cavallari went on to inquire about what — if anything — Conrad had said no to before filming, and what she’d asked to be cut.

She said that she’d had a bunch of “looks” taken out, joking, “I felt so bad for these poor people editing this. Like, my notes, I was just like, ‘So, I’m going to need you…'”

Mostly, Conrad’s biggest issue with an early edit of the special was that she looked unhappy in it, which she felt gave out the wrong impression.

“I watched the first cut, and I was like your [Cavallari’s] face doesn’t drop once,” she said. “I was like, ‘She nailed this,’ and like every time you cut to me, I literally look like I want to light myself on fire.”

She continued, “I promise. I promise it was so bad. I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ My husband watched it with me, and he was like, ‘Oh no.’ He was like, ‘It’s OK. It’s OK. They’ll fix it, you’re executive producer.”

There was one part of filming, which took place on a stage, that Conrad found really difficult.

“The problem was, every time they would take the camera off of me, I would just like stare at the ground and like try and get myself together, but they kept using those clips,” Conrad said. “So, like when they first did the first round, I was like, ‘Guys, this makes it look like I didn’t like I didn’t want to be with this group of people,’ which wasn’t true because I was so excited to be reunited. I was just in that moment personally having a really hard time.”

Laguna Beach aired between 2004 and 2006, while The Reunion: Laguna Beach will premiere April 10 on Roku.
