St. Luke’s General Hospital for Carlow and Kilkenny has announced it has lifted its visitor restrictions.

Visitor restrictions had been implemented at the Kilkenny City hospital in February of this year following an outbreak of norovirus, a highly contagious virus that causes gastroenteritis, leading to vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, and stomach cramps.

Visiting was on compassionate grounds only, with designated visitors required to wear a mask while in the wards.

However, the hospital has now reopened for visiting this week. All visitors will be asked to wear surgical masks in all clinical areas of the hospital.

Visiting times in the hospital are from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm daily, while in the maternity unit, support partners can visit from 10am to midday and from 6pm to 8pm.

No visiting is allowed in the emergency department.

Visitors are asked not to visit the hospital if they have any symptoms of cold, flu, covid-19, or any other viral illnesses.
