Derry City led twice at Oriel Park only to be pegged back on each occasion as their wait for a first away win of the season continued against Dundalk in a match in which James McClean saw red for two stoppage-time bookings.

James Clarke and Dipo Akinyemi had twice put the Candystripes ahead in the opening half but goals from Tyreke Wilson and Ronan Teahan denied Tiernan Lynch a much-needed victory in what was his 50th game in charge.

Keith Buckley and Declan McDaid had gone close for the home side early on before Derry hit the front on 14 minutes when Ben Doherty beat Enda Minogue to Brandon Fleming’s pass before pulling back to Clarke to slide one in off the post.

Dundalk deservedly drew level on 35 minutes when Wilson struck a left-foot screamer to the net from 25 yards out.

However, the Candystripes would restore their lead in first-half stoppage time. Doherty’s follow-up effort from a free-kick into the wall cannoned off Akinyemi and into the net.

It was largely one-way traffic in the second half with Dundalk eventually levelling on 74 minutes as Wilson’s header picked out Teahan unmarked to head past Eddie Beach to the bottom left-hand corner.
