Ireland’s main Scuba Diving organisation, Diving Ireland, recently announced the results of a photographic competition, with a difference.
Amateur Photographers were invited to submit underwater photographs, taken in Irish waters, highlighting Ireland’s Marine life and underwater landscapes.
The competition was divided into five separate categories:
1) Beginners
2) People
3) Landscapes
4) Macro
5) Wide.
This National competition had many entries and the winners were announced recently in thejournal. ie . Among the winners were two candidates with Sligo connections.
Sligo Sub Aqua Club members, Sinéad Keys and former member Ciaran O’Murchú, now resident in Cork.
Sinéad was awarded second place for her stunning image, in the Macro catagory, whilst Ciaran was awarded third place in the people category, for his magnificent photo of a diver exploring a reef.
Club member Andy Millar told The Sligo Champion: “These two worthy winners are both very experienced divers and although we don’t see much of Ciaran these days, we are so lucky to have Sinéad here,
“Diving regularly with Sligo SAC, she takes hundreds of magnificent images during every dive, whether here or abroad, which are posted on the Sligo Sub Aqua Club Facebook page.
“The Club’s Facebook page is easily accessible and now has hundreds of followers, both in Ireland and other countries, far and wide.
“On our Sligo SAC Facebook page we also have more contributors of images of undersea life. Quite prominent among them is Ronan Murray, who specialises in brilliant photos of really tiny creatures and, also, I.Nito, who sends in videos of most of his dives.
“Two or three other members are now also showing an interest. To view any of these images, just see them on Sligo SAC Facebook page,” Andy added.
