A special mural celebrating local legend Jim Lynch will be officially unveiled in Letterkenny next week.
The former Mayor of the town and “Father of the Cathedral Quarter” passed away in 2022 following a short illness.
However his memory and impact on the town, and particularly on the regeneration efforts at Church Lane, are still alive and well.
A special mural and a plaque will be officially unveiled next week outside No.3 Church Lane.
The mural depicts Jim watering flowers on the Church Lane, immortalising his hard work in making the area the centre of the town’s tourism and cultural offerings.
Also as part of the event, another new landmark on Church Lane will be illuminated as the Lawrence Collection is brought to life.

The iconic photograph of Church Lane taken over a century ago has now been recreated by renowned artist Ciaran Dunlevy on a gable wall, and will be lit up at night.
The lights were installed by Paddy Bond Electrical Contractors and have been sponsored by Chair of the Cathedral Quarter Committee, Sean Purser.

Sean says it promises to be a special occasion.
“This will be a poignant evening of memory and illumination,” he said.
“Jim had a lifelong commitment to the heritage of Letterkenny. This mural keeps him right at the heart of the very place he was so dedicated to. He would have been delighted to see the Lawrence Collection Mural lit up as well. It encapsulates much of what Jim stood for, highlighting the past to build a brighter future.”
All works were funded by Donegal County Council’s Minor Tourism Enhancement Grant
The event gets underway at 8pm on Thursday 23rd April and refreshments will be provided at the Himalayan Cafe.
There will also be speeches from a member of the Lynch family, artist Ciaran Dunlevy and from Sean Purser.
