In much the same way as a big soccer club might welcome a top-class star, RTÉ flashed out a glowing press release last week informing the GAA world that they had signed Brian Fenton for their football pundits’ team.
Referring to him as “one of football’s greatest ever players, a cornerstone of Dublin’s dominance”, they promised that “he will bring a wealth of experience and insight to the RTÉ panel”. There was more: they also introduced him as the fifth Footballer of the Year on the panel, joining Peter Canavan, Tomás O Sé, Seán Cavanagh and Lee Keegan.
