When Judge Max Barrett threw out billionaire John Magnier’s High Court case against the Thomson-Moore family, it was a rare defeat for a man who had built an empire on backing the winning horse.

And as the world-renowned bloodstock owner retreated to Coolmore to lick his wounds, others locally were celebrating.
