Paddy’s tipster fancies Lampard to end Coventry’s long promotion wait on Friday!

Friday could be the night for Frank as former Chelsea star Lampard prepares to steer Coventry City back to the Premier League for the first time since 2001. The Sky Blues have only spent a week off top spot since mid-October but they’ve made hard work of automatic promotion this month.

A draw at Ewood Park will be enough to secure their elevation out of the Championship, as Millwall won’t be able to catch them in the run-in, and Coventry fans are expected to head north in their thousands.

PP tipster Feargal Brennan whips up a superb Friday Bet Builder, with one of his picks is covered by Paddy’s Super Sub offer, meaning if a player is hooked off, the bet carries over to his replacement. So let’s get his Blackburn v Coventry tips…

WHEN: Friday, April 17th, 8pm
WHERE: Ewood Park, Blackburn
TV: Sky Sports Football/Sky Sports Main Event

Double Chance: Coventry or draw

A single point is enough to carry Coventry over the Premier League line and Lampard may have to take just that against a Blackburn team still on the edge of the relegation battle. Coventry are unbeaten in their last four games, but they head into this clash on the back of uninspiring successive 0-0 draws against Hull and already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday.

Blackburn are four points above the drop zone with three games left to play, so they should be OK, but a draw here would certainly help the cause. The hosts are also decent at home with only one loss in six at Ewood Park, so I’ll take Coventry in the double chance market.

Under 2.5 goals

Based on Coventry not scoring in their last two games, this contest might not be packed with goals, as the target is points on the board no matter how they arrive.

Lampard’s charges only average 1.1 away goals in the Championship this season, so Blackburn will be confident of keeping it tight at the back. Rovers have also gritted out two 0-0 stalemates in their last two home ties and that pattern looks set to continue on Friday.

Brandon Thomas-Asante to score

Overall, Coventry average exactly two goals scored per game in the second tier this season, and Brandon Asante-Thomas has bagged 12 in 2025/26. Haji Wright has edged above him as the club’s top scorer in recent weeks, with the USA international now onto 14 goals, but he’s goalless in his last four appearances.

Asante-Thomas has bagged in two of his last three starts and he has an excellent record against Blackburn with a goal in each of his three appearances against them including the 2-0 home win back in October.

Blackburn over 1.5 cards

Blackburn are fifth on the Championship’s most yellow cards list so far this season with 89 issued from 43 matches at an average of two per game. As the tension of staying in the division has ramped up. so has their card counter.

Rovers have picked up two or more cards in their last four games, and against a Coventry side including attacking stars like Wright and Asante-Thomas, they could be in for a tough night.
