A heartbroken Cork dad has issued an appeal to the public to help him honour the memory of his ‘beautiful’ daughter following her sudden death earlier this week.

Amelia Murphy, from Glanmire, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by her family at the Cork University Hospital, on Friday.

A death notice shared on RIP.ie described Amelia as the “adored daughter of Owen and Bernadette, loving sister of Owen and Alex and predeceased by her grandparents Joe and Fionnuala”.

The notice adds that she will be “sadly missed by her heartbroken parents, brothers, cousin Robyn, Ninang Sarah, uncle Mike, her two huskies Thor and Nala, relatives and friends.”

Amelia grew up around and adored motorcycles, and her father Owen has issued a heartbreaking appeal ahead of her funeral on Tuesday.

The devastated dad is asking the any bikers in the area if could help escort her remains for her final journey to the Island Crematorium in Ringaskiddy.

In an emotional message shared on social media, Owen wrote: “My heart is shattered as I share the news of the sudden passing of my beautiful daughter, Amelia.

“Words will never be enough to express the loss felt by her brothers, her mother, and our entire family. Anyone who knew her knew her love for motorbikes and her dream of getting her own hot pink/purple Bandit 600.

I would be grateful if any bikers could join us on Tuesday to escort her from O’Connor’s Funeral Home in Glanmire to the crematorium in Ringaskiddy.”

Owen also thanked the paramedics and “the incredible staff” in Cork University Hospital “who fought so hard to save” Amelia. “We will never forget your efforts,” he said.

Tributes have poured in for the popular young woman, who has been remembered as “an amazing person with such a kind soul”.

One mourner said: “Bernadette and family I am so sorry to hear of Amelia’s passing what a beautiful smile she was always lovely I remember her as a small girl coming to the unit with you such a hard road for you all may she RIP.”

While a close pal added: “I am so so sorry for your loss. Amelia was such an amazing person with such a kind soul and she was such a good friend to me. I wish the best and I can’t express my sorrow in words. I’m so sorry.”

Amelia was a former pupil at Bunscoil Chríost Rí primary school in Turners Cross, with her teachers sharing happy memories of her time at the school.

One of Amelia’s former teachers said: “I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of teaching Amelia in 6th class, and I remember her so fondly. She had such a beautiful disposition and was a joy to have in the classroom. Please know that I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”

While school principal Eoin Fitzpatrick said: “Sincere condolences to the Murphy family on the sad loss of Amelia. Amelia was a very popular student in her time in Bunscoil Chríost Rí and our thoughts go to her friends and family. Solas na bhFlaitheas go raibh aici.”
