“I’ll tell you, this is the toughest term for me,” Senator Frances Black says, with a slight sigh. We’re sitting in an upstairs meeting room in Leinster House, above the Seanad chamber. We’ve been talking about what she makes of the current political climate.

The woman who first made her name as a singer is 10 years in politics this year, having been elected to the Seanad as an independent in 2016.
