Cork captain Darragh Fitzgibbon has successfully managed to track down a young supporter who was accidentally caught up in the post-match scenes following Cork’s win over Tipperary.
Cork got their Munster Championship campaign off to a winning start in Thurles, but as fans flooded onto the pitch at full-time, one unfortunate moment was picked up on television and later shared across social media.
While Fitzgibbon and teammate Shane Barrett were embracing after the final whistle, the bás of Fitzgibbon’s hurley inadvertently struck a young child who had made his way onto the field.
The young fan fell to the ground in tears, with Fitzgibbon unaware of the incident as it happened.

To his credit, Tipperary legend Noel McGrath was quick to react, along with a nearby linesman, rushing over to check on the child and make sure he was okay.
Thankfully, the incident appeared to be minor, but it quickly gained traction online after being spotted during the broadcast.
Cork Star Successfully Tracks Down Young Supporter After Unfortunate Thurles Incident
Cavanagh’s of Charleville, where Darragh Fitzgibbon is a brand ambassador, issued an appeal on social media to identify the young supporter, with the Cork star keen to make amends.
In a Facebook post, they said Fitzgibbon had reached out looking for help to find the boy, as he hopes to meet him and gift him a signed Cork jersey.
We are looking for the public’s help in tracking down this young boy who accidentally got caught up in the celebrations.
Darragh would like to meet him and give him a signed Cork jersey.
Cavanagh’s have since posted an updated confirming contact has been made and the young fan will be looked after and will have a chance to meet Darragh Fitzgibbon.
