Legal counsel for BLACKPINK’s Jisoo issued a statement over recent allegations involving a family member, after reports emerged that a man identified as the brother of a member of a well-known K-pop girl group had been arrested on charges of sexually harassing an online streamer.
“Some media reports, online communities and social media platforms have been recklessly linking the artist and Blissoo to the family-related issue spreading online, while defaming them based on false claims,” said Eun Hyun-ho, an attorney at Kim & Chang, legal representative for Jisoo’s agency Blissoo.
“The issue currently being raised is entirely unrelated to the artist and Blissoo, and many of the claims circulating online are either unverified speculation or plainly false,” the law firm said. It added that Jisoo, who began her career at a young age and has long lived independently from her family, had no knowledge whatsoever of her brother’s private life.
The statement also rejected claims that the controversial figure had ties to Jisoo or her agency.
“Although the artist received limited advice from a family member or had certain communications relayed through them while consulting with relevant parties during the preparations to launch Blissoo, no family member has at any point, either then or now, received compensation from the agency or participated in its decision-making,” the legal representative said.
“Online claims that the individual serves as an executive or chief executive officer of Blissoo are also false. The individual currently has no legal or management-related affiliation with the agency.”
Blissoo also denied allegations that it or the artist had provided any financial or legal assistance to the man at the center of the controversy, while warning of strong legal action against the spread of false claims.
“Repeatedly spreading false claims or using the artist’s name, likeness or image to link her to unrelated matters for circulation and consumption online constitutes a clear violation of her rights and defamation,” the attorney said.
“We will immediately take all possible civil and criminal legal action in response, and will respond firmly without leniency or settlement.”
