From this weekend, you’ll be able to fly from Shannon Airport to Frankfurt.

A major boost for Mid-West connectivity takes flight this weekend as the inaugural Discover Airlines service from Shannon Airport to Frankfurt begins.

The new route, operated by the Lufthansa Group subsidiary, launches this Saturday, April 25th.

The weekly service is scheduled to run until October 24th, providing a direct two-hour link between the West of Ireland and one of Europe’s most significant aviation hubs.

For Limerick travellers and businesses, the timing of the flight is a particular advantage.

With a 12-noon departure from Shannon, passengers can land in Frankfurt in time to avail of extensive onward flight and rail connections across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

Shannon Airport Director Niall Kearns highlighted the economic potential the route brings to the region.

“The launch of new routes is always special, and we’re excited to welcome our first Frankfurt-bound passengers through Shannon on Saturday,” Mr. Kearns said. “This service opens up opportunities for both business travel and inbound tourism. Germany is a key market for Ireland, and having a direct link from a major European hub to the Wild Atlantic Way is a real advantage.”

The Airport Director noted that the influx of German visitors is expected to provide a direct lift to the Limerick hospitality sector, supporting local hotels, restaurants, and attractions throughout the summer season.

Beyond its status as a gateway to the world, Frankfurt serves as Germany’s financial capital.

It has become an increasingly popular destination for city breaks, known for its ‘Mainhattan’ skyline, riverside cafes, and world-class museums.
