Woman, 60s, pronounced dead at house in Limerick suburb

GARDAI and emergency services rushed to a residence on the outskirts of the city where the body of a woman was discovered, Limerick Live has learned.

According to gardai, a woman, aged in her 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene in Dooradoyle on Monday.

“Her body has since been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course,” the gardai said in a press statement on Tuesday.

It is understood that no foul play is suspected. It is thought that one line of enquiry being followed is that she may have died following a fire in her home.

Following a query from Limerick Live, a spokesperson for Limerick City and County Council said Limerick Fire and Rescue Service responded to a request from An Garda Síochána shortly after 1.20pm on Monday.

“Fire service resources mobilised immediately and were on scene by approximately 1.30pm.

“Fire crews were tasked with gaining entry to the dwelling which was achieved within a short period of arrival.

“Following confirmation that no further fire service actions were required, the scene was formally handed back to An Garda Síochána,” said a council spokesperson.

The name of the woman has not been released.
