A man in his 70s has appeared in court charged with a sexual assault in Donegal.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Letterkenny District Court.
Sergeant Jim Collins gave evidence of serving the defendant with a book of evidence.
He is charged that on a date between January 1, 2021 and January 31, 2021, at a location in County Donegal, he committed a sexual assault, contrite to section 2 (1) of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act 1990.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for the accused man being forwarded to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
Judge Emile Daly returned the man for trial, administered the alibi warning and made a section 56 order relating to interviews.
The accused man was present in court, but did not speak during the brief mention of the case. He was represented by solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian.
