Limerick girl, 16, appears in court, via video-link, over assault on Scarlett Faulkner

A WOMAN and teenage girl from Limerick have appeared in court via video-link this Thursday in connection with the serious assault on Scarlett Faulkner last month.

The accused girl, aged 16, is charged with assault causing serious harm to Ms Faulkner, aged 29, at the R494 Birdhill, County Tipperary, on Saturday, March 21.

The girl appeared before Nenagh District Court this Thursday morning via video-link from a youth detention centre.

She did not speak other than to indicate that she could hear and see the proceedings.

The girl’s solicitor, Turlough Herbert, indicated that a psychological assessment of the girl was being scheduled while she was being detained on remand.

A female co-accused, aged in her 40s, also appeared before the court via video-link from Limerick Prison.

She is charged with reckless endangerment, violent disorder, and two counts of burglary.

The woman, who was represented in court by solicitor Pauric Nesbitt, spoke only to confirm she could hear and see the proceedings.

Neither accused can be named because of reporting restrictions imposed by Judge Carol Anne Coolican in Limerick District Court last month.

This Thursday, Judge Fiona Brennan granted an application by prosecuting gardaí for a four-week adjournment. It was granted with the consent of solicitors Mr Herbert and Mr Nesbitt.

The judge said reporting restrictions that were previously imposed remain in place.

The judge remanded the two accused in continuing custody to appear before Nenagh District Court for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on Friday, May 15.
