EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has confirmed Grant Mitchell’s future following a tragic death. Emotional scenes next week will see the passing of Nigel Bates, with Grant returning amid Phil’s reluctance to see Nigel before he dies.

Phil struggles to deal with the imminent death of his friend, with Grant’s son Mark calling upon him to come back and talk sense into his brother. After Grant’s return, Phil goes missing and after finding his sibling, Grant pleads with him to say a final goodbye.

After some soul-bearing, Phil agrees, racing against time before making it back in time to see Nigel in his final moments. However, in the aftermath Phil is close to falling apart, as Grant shows concern about his brother’s mental health.

Ross Kemp is back for the storyline, and while returning characters sometimes are back for just a few big episodes, it looks like he will be sticking around a bit longer than expected, with spoilers for the following week revealing that Grant will be stepping in to “help a friend”.

Elsewhere, Phil and Sam are set to show support for a loved one, while the election between Elaine Peacock and Ian Beale for local councillor heats up ahead of voting, with Ian set to make a “rash decision” that looks like it could backfire.
