At least 60,000 people in Ireland have been queueing online today to buy tickets for next year’s Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Co Limerick, with some fans reporting technical issues with the process.
A limited number of tickets for the event went on sale at 11am for residents from the island of Ireland, with the full public ballot for fans from the rest of the world set to open on 3 June.
Anyone looking to purchase tickets today had to register an account on the Ryder Cup Europe website ahead of this morning’s sale.
Despite many fans saying they successfully secured tickets, some reported technical issues with the online sales process including the website crashing and being booted from the system once they reached the top of the queue.
A message displayed by organisers to some people queuing on the website acknowledged the ticket ballot was “experiencing technical difficulties” and said “we are currently working hard to fix the issue”.
However, tickets for practice days earlier in the week are available to buy from €89.
Ryder Cup Europe said only residents from the island of Ireland with a registered Ryder Cup ticket account would be able to access today’s ticket window.
