Over 1,300 new-build social homes are on the way for Donegal, according to the Department of Housing.
Their latest Social Housing Construction Status Report (CSR) has been released today, showing that a total of 1,314 new social homes are in the “delivery pipeline” for the county.
That includes 474 social homes that were actively under construction in Q4 of 2025.
Meanwhile there were 840 further housing units at the design or tender stage at the same point.
One of those projects which are now in the delivery pipeline include a new 172-home estate at Ballymacool in Letterkenny.
The total number of new-build social homes that were completed in the county in 2025 stood at just 140 according to data released last month.
The Government report also states that a total of 22,949 new homes were “in the delivery process” nationwide, with 9,703 of those being under construction as of 2025 Q4.
In a statement, Housing Minister James Browne said that these were “record levels” of social housing delivery.

“The continued momentum shown in today’s figures reflects the real and lasting impact that sustained investment in social housing is having both in Donegal and across the country,” he said.
“Such a robust pipeline provides a solid foundation for maintaining record levels of social housing delivery, ensuring that the momentum achieved to date can be sustained and strengthened in the years ahead.”
“This level of activity is not just about numbers. It is about providing secure, high-quality homes that transform people’s lives. Every new home delivered means long-term stability for a family or individual and I am determined that this progress continues at pace.”
While the total number of new social homes constructed nationwide in 2025 was a record at 9,089, that figure fell short of the Government’s Housing for All target of 10,000 new builds for the year according to RTÉ.
