3 Best Movies To Watch On Netflix This Weekend (#1 Is A New Star-Studded Action Thriller)

Netflix has one of the best arrivals on streaming heading into the weekend, and it is joined by two trending films that subscribers will enjoy for completely different reasons. On last weekend’s Netflix movie recommendations, I talked about Halloween Ends, 180, and Him. The last two films had either just dropped on the streaming service or were arriving shortly. Now, both of them are major hits.

Him is currently the 5th most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States. As for the revenge thriller 180, the film stands above Marlon Wayans’ supernatural horror as the 3rd most-watched movie on Netflix nationwide and the most-watched film worldwide. That is to say that the last Netflix movie recommendations list was able to predict tendencies before they were formed on the streaming service. This time around, there is a mix of strategy.

Two of the movies that subscribers should absolutely check out on the streaming service this weekend are already trending on Netflix’s US chart. One of them is a survival thriller, while the other is a comedy. This weekend’s goal is to present different types of films that will allow viewers to experience a wide range of emotions.

The final entry on the list is the story of a woman fighting to survive as a serial killer stalks her as if she were an animal. That movie has the potential to become a global smash hit. It is one of two Netflix Original movies for subscribers to enjoy this weekend. Check them out:

Roommates (2026)

Starting the list is a comedy to keep the mood lighter. Subscribers will find plenty to laugh about in Roommates, which brings back the classic setup of a shy friend and her confident counterpart going through college together. The twist is that this witty friendship soon turns sour as a war erupts between them, all while navigating the usual situations that make college such a colorful experience.

Roommates is currently the most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States and the 2nd most-watched globally. If you have not yet checked it out, this hilarious college adventure makes for the perfect way to start the weekend on Netflix with high spirits. Sadie Sandler (Happy Gilmore 2) and Chloe East (Heretic) give life to the shy Devon and the cool Celeste, respectively.

The Requin (2022)

Now, for the first thriller movie on the list, I thought about the perfect follow-up to a recent Netflix hit. Thrash, the shark thriller starring Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor, recently proved itself a major global hit, with plenty of bloody action and intense moments. If you have already watched it, then Netflix has the perfect next project in line for the weekend in the form of The Requin.

The Requin follows a couple — Jaelyn, played by Alicia Silverstone, and Kyle, played by James Tupper — who get stranded when the overwater bungalow they are staying in is dragged to the middle of the ocean after a huge storm. Surrounded by sharks, they have to fight to survive as their vacation becomes a nightmare. The Requin is currently Netflix’s 4th most-watched movie in the United States.

Apex (2026)

Finally, Netflix’s biggest arrival this week is Apex, which was just released on the streaming service on Friday, April 24. The survival thriller follows Charlize Theron’s Sasha as she fights to survive while being hunted by Taron Egerton’s Ben, a sadistic hunter and serial killer. Using her rock climbing experience and physical prowess, Sasha must escape the apex predator.

Apex debuted to a decent Rotten Tomatoes score, with a 71% critics’ score at the time of writing. Netflix’s new thriller movie is action-packed from the beginning to the end, with gorgeous landscapes and an energetic performance from Egerton that steals the whole film. Apex is the best way to end the weekend on Netflix, putting viewers on the edge of their seats.
