Pint of Science Ireland announces new Mayo locations for 2026 festival

Science enthusiasts in Mayo are in for a treat next month, as Pint of Science Ireland has confirmed its largest-ever festival, with Westport and Mulranny among the newest locations joining the nationwide event.

Taking place from May 18 to 20, 2026, the festival will see more than 200 researchers deliver talks at 59 events across 17 cities and towns throughout Ireland.

It marks the biggest edition of the international science festival ever held in Ireland.

Designed to bring cutting-edge research out of laboratories and into everyday settings, Pint of Science pairs scientific discovery with informal conversation in pubs, cafés and community venues. Audiences can enjoy a drink while learning about topics ranging from black holes and climate change to medical breakthroughs and biodiversity.

For Mayo audiences, three events featuring 11 researchers will take place in Westport and Mulranny, offering a unique opportunity to hear from experts on subjects including music, ecology, and nature restoration.

The expansion into Mayo reflects the festival’s growing reach, with new host locations this year also including Athlone, Carlow, Connemara, Letterkenny, Thurles, Tralee and Waterford.

Organisers say the 2026 programme will place a strong emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that science is open to everyone. An exclusive event presented entirely in Irish will also showcase scientific research through the Irish language.
