An embankment located by the Ballina train station which has become notorious in recent times for its unsightly appearance is to be cleared, in news welcomed by Mayo Fine Gael Councillor Marie-Therese Duffy.

The embankment, located on the Station Road entrance into the North Mayo town, has been a topic of discussion for some time now, with exposed ground, tree stumps, dead trees and waste on display.

Last November, Councillor Duffy raised a motion concerning the matter; however local interest groups had been pursuing a cleanup for a time before that. She says the site is “quite complex” due to the number of tree stumps and rocks in place.

She spoke about  this clean-up to  Midwest Radio’s Rowan Kelly, with a contractor now on site…
