Armed Gardaí respond to suspected stabbing in Cork city centre

Members of the Garda Armed Support Unit were called to Cork city centre this afternoon following reports of a suspected stabbing.

Emergency services and Gardaí were alerted to the incident along Clontarf Street by members of the public. While the street has not been sealed off following the attack, a large Garda presence remains in the area this afternoon.

One witness told CorkBeo that members of the Armed Response Unit arrived at the scene at around 2:30 pm following reports of an altercation involving two males and another man.

It’s understood that one of the pair produced a weapon and stabbed the victim. Bloodstains were observed on the pavement following the attack.

Members of the National Ambulance Service attended the scene alongside Gardaí, and it’s understood that the victim is receiving treatment. The full extent of their injuries is unknown at this time; however, one witness described them as being of a serious nature.
