The event has been hugely popular for the last few years and it is now hoped to grow it even bigger to create a community day out for everyone and at the same time help Cahersiveen Community Hospital. This year’s date is Sunday, May 10at Cahersiveen pier from 10am to 3pm.

Lucie Fish, who is from originally from France, said that Car Boot sales are popular there and she came up with the idea of bringing one to Cahersiveen.

“Car boot sales are extremely popular in France, England and many other European countries. I started to organise this event in Caherciveen because I used to go to them a lot in France, loved them and was missing them here. So, why not having one in my hometown Caherciveen,” she said.

“In France it’s the ‘mairie’ (county council of each village) that’s in charge to organise such event and the entrance fees goes back to public expenses. In Ireland, there is no public service dedicated to such event.”

So Lucie decided she would show the joy and fun of such events.

The Car Boot sale has now been running for seven years and is growing in popularity in each year and more importantly so too is the support for the local hospital. Lucie is now hoping to make it even bigger and better this year.

“The Caherciveen car boot sale has been very successful in the last past years. People showed real interest into it, had a great time at it and asked me to keep at it even more than once a year. I painted signs, printed small flyers, did as much of advertisement online as I could and told each single person I knew about it,” she explained.

“I wish to see the event getting bigger and brighter with years, get more sellers (they were 32 in 2025), more browsers, in hope to raise much more money for St Anne’s Hospital and have the event strongly established in the community.”

Sellers buy an entrance fee of €20 to be able to sell their belongings, and browsers come for free to the event (optional donation bucket) to buy, bargain, browse,

“It’s a day of gathering, socialising and a charity event as all entrance fees and donation bucket are donated to Caherciveen St Anne’s Hospital,” she said.
