Mayo Atlantic Drive named among Ireland’s most scenic drives

One of Mayo’s most iconic routes has been recognised as one of Ireland’s most scenic drives, with the stunning Atlantic Drive on Achill Island earning a place in a new nationwide ranking.

The study, commissioned by 123.ie, analysed some of Ireland’s best-known driving routes using factors including TripAdvisor ratings, Instagram popularity, sunshine hours, elevation, route length and drive time.

Atlantic Drive ranked 21st overall in the country, achieving a score of 211.5 out of 600.

Renowned for its dramatic coastal scenery, rugged cliffs and panoramic Atlantic views, the Achill route received an impressive 4.8-star rating from travellers. Better still, the full drive can be enjoyed in around three hours, making it an ideal day trip.

Despite its spectacular setting, Atlantic Drive remains something of a hidden treasure. With just over 1,000 Instagram-tagged posts, it is far less crowded online than many of Ireland’s more famous touring routes.

That relative under-the-radar status only adds to its appeal, offering motorists a chance to experience some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery away from the busiest tourist trails.

While the Ring of Kerry claimed the top spot overall, followed by the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Beara, the recognition is a welcome boost for Mayo tourism, particularly as the county continues to attract visitors seeking authentic experiences, stunning landscapes and off-the-beaten-track escapes.
